Trauma Treatment

Have you experienced an unimaginable trauma? Do painful memories play over and over in your head? Are you having trouble sleeping or are you afraid of your dreams? Do you find yourself snapping at loved ones, even when you believe that they are merely trying to protect you from further harm?

Do you avoid getting too close to people out of fear that you might get hurt; or maybe out of concern that you might hurt others unintentionally? Do your traumatic experiences cause you to flinch at the thought of getting familiar with others? On the other hand, do you continuously find yourself in the same unsatisfying relationships – moving from one heartbreak to another?

Do your reactions to situations tend to outweigh what actually occurred? Maybe you feel like you’re losing control. Perhaps you are confused because your responses don’t make sense – even to you. Have you experienced extreme physical changes during stressful situations – from headaches and nausea to changes in your breathing or heart rate? Maybe you know where these physical and emotional fears come from, or you maybe you haven’t a clue. You may wish you could….

Trauma TreatmentCan Help You Heal

Trauma has many faces. Living through the unimaginable horror of violence or abuse takes a toll on your mental and physical state, but so can living with chronic stress. It can make your body and mind shut down. Sometimes years may even pass by before the effect of your trauma appears in situations. Symptoms can get “locked” inside your body and cause emotional stress and chronic pain. People who have experienced unresolved trauma are much more vulnerable to chronic illness.

The good news is that over the past 20 years there have been great advances in trauma treatment. One of the most important critical ways to overcome the effects of trauma is gaining the help of a caring, compassionate person. I can be that person for you. Through trauma treatment, I can help you to recognize and work through trauma’s many manifestations in your life. There is hope. Don’t you wish that you could overcome your traumatic experiences to enjoy a more joyful and fulfilling life? I’d like to help you through the healing process.

You may believe that therapy can potentially help you find peace, but you may still have some questions and concerns…

Can trauma treatment really help me?

One of the first and most important ways to overcome trauma is through engaging in a safe and attentive relationship. My clients tell me that as the trust between us grows, they begin to feel free to talk about things they’ve never told anyone else before; they say that their lives are starting to make more sense to them. In sessions, I can gently guide you through the same process.

I’m aware of the emotional side, but can you really help me with the physical effects of trauma?

There’s no doubt that trauma affects the body. You may have learned to cut off from your physical sensations so that you don’t feel the pain or overwhelming emotions. Believe it or not, the impact of trauma frequently shows up in the physical form before most people are even aware of the emotional and psychological effects. Learning to be more sensitive to these changes can help you learn to regulate the overwhelming reactions that you may have. I am trained in Somatic Experiencing and in Bioenergetics, trauma treatment methods that can help you to relax, connect to your own healing energy and untangle the “knots” left from traumatic events. Both of these methods have provided me with tools to understand how the body responds to emotions. I can support you in reconnecting to your sensations so that you can have access to more of your own life force.

I’m afraid to reach out for help.

That’s understandable. You may have learned to deal with these overwhelming experiences by avoiding them. You might be really scared to talk about what you’ve experienced. I want to help you to find a new way to manage these memories and feelings so that they no longer control you.

I can provide a safe place and be a trustworthy and open-minded companion to help you move past the horrors haunting you. Take that first step and call me at (805) 494-8777 to make an appointment. You no longer have to face this alone. I can help you to transcend all the bad that has happened to you, so that you can experience a more fulfilling and peaceful life.
